Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham urges Marcus Rashford to leave Old Trafford this summer

Teddy Sheringham has urged Marcus Rashford to leave Manchester United this summer.

The England striker has been in and out of the side this season and was again on the bench for the draw with West Ham on Thursday night.

Rashford, who was criticised by Jose Mourinho after the defeat to Brighton, has managed just six Premier League goals this term in 16 starts.

Mourinho is unlikely to entertain offers for Rashford but former United striker Sheringham has told him to move on.

“He needs to learn what he can get away with on a football pitch, what he can do, what he can’t do. You don’t learn that by watching other people play,” Sheringham said on Sky Sports.

“I don’t care how good the players are, it’s all about experience, it’s about making mistakes along the way and coming up against these players week in, week out and knowing how to prepare to play next season and the season after that.

“But if you don’t get the experience, you don’t get the chance. All you do is sit and watch and you make mistakes later in life.

“He needs to learn now, he’s an unbelievable talent for me, and he needs to be playing in a first-team somewhere.”

Mourinho confirmed Rashford will start against Watford on Sunday as he eyes a place in the FA Cup final line-up.

Asked for his final day plans, he said: “I play Romero, I play Daley Blind, I play Eric Bailly, I play Rashford, I play Martial, I play Mata but I have every player apart from Fellaini and Lukaku available and I don’t go to the young players.”
