Chelsea star Olivier Giroud claims passion for skiing inspired wonder goal vs Southampton in FA Cup semi-final

Olivier Giroud claims his passion for skiing helped him to leave Southampton players on a heap as he slalomed his way to scoring the opening goal in the FA Cup semi-final win.

The France international continued his fine form at Wembley where he has yet to experience defeat in 10 club games.

The former Arsenal star will hope he has now secured first choice status over Alvaro Morata under Antonio Conte to start in the final against Manchester United.

Giroud said: “My second passion is skiing! I saw a lot of people in front of me and I just tried to dribble a little bit and I had a bit of luck but that’s what I wanted to do.

Conte embraces his forward

“I told them I really want them to enjoy the FA Cup as I know how special it is to win it.

“It’s like my garden and I love to play here.”

Giroud’s form is likely to secure his place in Les Bleus’ World Cup squad for Russia 2018, but first he will hope to continue his love affair with the FA Cup by winning it for the fourth time in his career.
