Man, 18, stabbed to death in London ‘bringing grim death toll to 60 murders this year’

A teenage boy has become the third person to be stabbed to death in London in less than 48 hours.

The 18-year-old was found with knife wounds in Forest Gate at 10.50pm last night.

Paramedics battled to save his life but he died at the scene.

Police are investigating and, if treated as a murder, it will be the 60th in the capital this year.

On Sunday, a woman in her 30s was stabbed to death in Brixton, south London, at around 6.30pm.

A man in his 20s, who is believed to know the woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene.

Just half an hour earlier, 26-year-old Raul Nicolaie was stabbed to death in Colindale, north London.

Friends told the Evening Standard the Romanian national, who came to Britain around five years ago, leaves behind a six-month-old son.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

The victim and the suspect were known to each other, the Met added.

A spike in violent crime across the capital has pushed London’s murder rate above New York in recent months.

The killings have been described as a “virus” by an ex-Met Police chief, while New York’s former top cop said Scotland Yard needed to return to the values of his hero Sir Robert Peel.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror this month, Bill Bratton, the former commissioner of the New York Police Department, said: “Your great police leader Sir Robert Peel understood the importance of being able to work in many diverse neighbourhoods.

“To do it you need a trust,” he said.
