Neymar’s pursuit of world football’s top individual honour was seen by many as the key reason behind his move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, while he’s also been tipped to light up this summer’s World Cup once he returns from his metatarsal injury.
Now the world’s most expensive footballer, Neymar has scored 26 goals in 29 appearances this season with Carlos hailing his decision to leave Barcelona for the French capital in the summer.
Carlos – who won the tournament with Brazil in Japan and South Korea in 2002 – told France Football : “I think he did well to sign at PSG.
“To be the best in the world he had to leave Barca because there is Messi.
“Even if he must be aware that, as long as Messi and Ronaldo are in form, he will have to settle for third place.”
Neymar continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer, but the current focus is on when he’ll return to fitness ahead of the World Cup.
This week the forward shared on Instagram video of the treatment he’s receiving in a bid to be fit for Brazil’s opener against Switzerland in Rostov on June 17.
